Gas Proofing System
Project Location
Corbridge Crescent, Hackney, London.
Client
Trac Construction / HG Construction
This development included 3 modern interlinked commercial blocks, close to Regents Canal in Hackney.
We initially became involved in this project after a recommendation from our friends at trac construction. They had been contracted by HG construction to complete the groundworks on this fantastic new development.
Our expertise was required as the site had been identified as having high level of VOC (Volatile organic compounds), so a bespoke gas proofing system would be required to protect the structure.
In the early stages we worked closely with HG construction to identify and analyse the best possible options for a gas proofing system. Several solutions were explored in detail, with a clean air blanket system and a mechanical ventilation system amongst them.
After a full analysis though, it was agreed by all parties that the most suitable solution was a vented system which would include a series of static vents on both sides of the building. In addition to the static ventilation system we would also be installing a Delta MemTech ground gas membrane to protect the structure against contaminates.
Installation began in April 2020 and was completed over a six-week period. Complex installations such as this one must be completed by NVQ Level 2 qualified technicians by law. Thankfully here at Renlon we have several surveyors with the necessary qualifications and experience to install gas proofing systems. In fact, this project enabled two more of our newest surveyors to also be awarded their own NVQ level 2 qualifications.
Gas proofing projects like this one are extremely high risk and that is why an independent third-party companies must be called upon to complete integrity testing and to provide verification sign off. For this project MTS Ltd were the third party and they were satisfied that installation was conducted correctly and they system was functioning as expected.
