Homeowner questions

What to know before works are specified.

Renlon’s residential approach starts with qualified diagnosis. These answers explain what that means before you commit to work.

Do I need a survey before works can be specified?

Yes. Similar symptoms can have different causes and require different remedies. The survey establishes the ingress mechanism or condition before a specification is prepared.

Is the survey chargeable?

Specification-level surveys and written reports are chargeable. The fee is confirmed before attendance and is typically credited against the works if you proceed.

Can Renlon waterproof an existing wet basement?

Yes. Existing cellars, vaults and basements — including failed previous systems — form a substantial part of Renlon’s remedial work.

What is the difference between Type A, Type B and Type C waterproofing?

Type A is barrier protection, Type B makes the structure itself water-resistant, and Type C manages water within a drained cavity. The right approach depends on the structure, water conditions and intended use.

How can I distinguish penetrating damp from rising damp?

Penetrating damp can occur at any height, is often localised and may respond to rainfall. Rising damp appears at the base of a wall, often with a tide mark. A survey is needed to confirm the cause.

Do woodworm holes prove an active infestation?

Not necessarily. Fresh bore dust and clean, light-coloured holes are more suggestive of current activity, so the timber and moisture conditions should be inspected before treatment is proposed.

What guarantee is provided?

Qualifying installations receive Renlon’s own 10-year guarantee, subject to agreed terms and project requirements. A manufacturer guarantee may also apply where an approved system is specified.
